Fiji falls below the Pacific regional average for women’s representation in business leadership while most private sector boards have fewer than 30 percent of women directors.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, while launching the Leadership Matters 2024 Report: Benchmarking Women in Business Leadership in the Pacific, the second edition of the Leadership Matters.

Tabuya says there is a need for more efforts to promote gender diversity and create more inclusive leadership opportunities across all sectors.

Tabuya also says the Leadership Matters report states that women have made significant strides in roles as CEOs and Board of Directors which promises a shift towards equality and inclusivity in the business landscape.

She says there is a positive increase in female representation in senior executive positions within Fiji.

Tabuya further says there is a need to build upon this progress, recognising the invaluable contributions of women leaders in driving innovation, fostering diversity, and shaping the future of business in Fiji and beyond.

The Minister adds they encourage graduates to remain connected and support each other in breaking down these barriers and promoting gender equality in the workplace and society.

The launch of Leadership Matters 2024 served as a platform to acknowledge the achievements of women leaders and inspire further advancements in promoting gender equality and empowerment in the corporate sphere.
