Outgoing Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes says his 5-year tenure in Fiji is one of the most memorable and greatest achievements in his diplomatic career.

While speaking at his farewell, he has commended the Fijian people for their resilience, as well as their Fijian hospitality.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has commended Feakes as he has been very instrumental in the successful signing of the Vuvale Partnership.

Bainimarama attended the farewell reception for Feakes held at his residence in Suva last night.

The Fijian Government says through his sound leadership, Fiji and Australia's bilateral relations were further strengthened in the areas of defence, sports, trade, and tourism.

Chief Justice Kamal Kumar, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corp, and senior civil servants also bid farewell to Feakes.

Feakes was also hosted to a farewell lunch by the Prime Minister.
