Patients at the CWM Hospital who need surgery are not getting operated on time due to faulty elevators.

Former FM96 Breakfast Show host, Andrew Bolakoro who has been at the CWM Hospital caring for a loved one says this issue was raised to him by a surgeon who was making his “apology rounds” to the patients.

Bolakoro says the surgeon relayed to him that the CWM Hospital needs an in-house set of engineers to focus solely on its maintenance as the elevators are essential in transporting people to and from surgery.

He says he can attest to these issues as the day his loved one was given the all clear for surgery, they had to wait an extra three days due to the backlog of patients waiting for the elevator to be fixed to have surgery.

Bolakoro says when the backlog finally cleared, the elevator broke down again, and they had to wait for another few days.

When the surgery was eventually done, he says they were asked to stay for reviews where it was decided they had to undergo a second surgery, but the elevator broke down again.

Bolakoro says this is the reason the surgeon was making his “apology rounds” as this has led to the frustrations of both patients and surgeons.

He says the surgeon told him there have been times when conditions have worsened due to the time spent waiting for the elevators to be fixed so lives can be saved.

We have sent questions to the Ministry of Health and are awaiting their response.
