A 35 year old farmer who allegedly tried to drown his wife in a river after a dispute in Nacokaika Village in Naitasiri has been remanded in custody by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

Taniela Damaso has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

The court was told that the victim went to the river to get jackfruit and Damaso accompanied her.

It is alleged that after a dispute, Damaso tried to strangle his wife and drown her in the river.

The court was also told that Damaso only stopped when he saw blood come out of his wife's mouth.

Justice Goundar has told Damaso that trying to drown his wife is a serious crime and he should seek advice from Legal Aid.

Justice Goundar has given Damaso 28 days to file his bail application.

The case will be called on 21st January 2022 for plea.
