A family is still coming to terms after losing their 8-year-old son in a tragic accident on the Dreketi Highway near Basikalave Settlement yesterday afternoon.

Year 3 student Krisav Krishnav Lal was crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a man in his 50s.

His mother Vanshika Darshani says she was told by a neighbour about the accident.

She claims the driver had initially driven off after finding out that he had hit a child.

Darshani says she could not believe what she was being told and denied it.

She says she was running to the road when another boy who was travelling with her son told her that Krisav was involved in a serious accident.

Eyewitnesses have told fijivillage News that Krishav died at the scene and his body was taken to the hospital by the police.

Police says the driver will be questioned soon as investigators await the post mortem examination to be conducted.
