The Fiji Roads Authority is raising concerns about improper waste disposal, which continues to block drains and culverts around the country.

They say as part of its routine maintenance, the teams regularly clear out drainage systems to prevent flooding.

FRA says the team in Nausori carried out hydro jetting works and discovered large amounts of household rubbish, including flip-flops and plastic bottles, clogging the drains.

They say maintaining clear drainage is vital for preventing floods, protecting road infrastructure and ensuring public safety, especially during heavy rain.

FRA urges people to dispose of rubbish responsibly and adopt better waste management habits to keep their communities clean.
