FICAC files appeal in Suva High Court against Bobby Maharaj's acquittal

FICAC has filed a petition in the Suva High Court to appeal the Magistrates Courts’ decision where Bobby Maharaj was acquitted of his abuse of office charge.

Maharaj was charged by FICAC with one count of abuse of office and was acquitted in May this year.

It was earlier alleged that Maharaj while being employed by the Commerce Commission in abuse of authority directed an employee of the commission, without conducting an inspection to fill in false information to indicate an inspection was conducted of a trader and a verbal warning was issued against the trader for breaches under the Commerce Commission Decree.

FICAC lawyer Sera Fatafehi told the court that they seek time for court to provide them with case record from the Magistrates Court.

The case has been adjourned to the 30th of July.
