FEO to hold one day Stakeholder Forum aimed at enhancing voter participation

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says the Fijian Elections Office has decided to hold a one day Stakeholder Forum on the 30th of this month aimed at enhancing voter participation.

He says intended guests for this Stakeholder Forum are political party representatives, civil society organisations, media, voters, academia as well as other agencies and partners of the Fijian Elections Office.

Saneem confirms people can apply to be part of the Stakeholder Forum and the expressions of interests will be put out today and close on the 18th of this month.

The Supervisor of Elections says the 2018 General Election had seen a drop in turnout from 84% in 2014 to 72% in 2018.

He adds this drop in turnout is a reason for concern and as such during the nationwide campaign it is ideal to look at best practices and options to create greater participation in the election.

Saneem further adds following the 2018 General Election, the Fijian Elections Office scanned the Voter Lists for the entire country and prepared reports using the voter registration data from this scanning exercise.
