The Fijian Elections Office and the Elections Disability Access Working Group has launched its 2024-2027 strategic plans to enhance the credibility and efficiency of the electoral processes.

While speaking during the launch, Acting Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa says the strategic plan will serve as a road map that will guide the FEO over the coming years, outline key objectives, strategies and actions to ensure that every vote is counted and every elections is conducted with utmost integrity.

She says the strategic plans includes the modernisation of electoral processes, the promotion of voter engagements and the enhancement of stakeholders collaboration as the FEO is committed to fostering an environment where inclusive and diversity are respected and where Fijians can exercise their right to vote with confidence, pride and without fear.

Mataiciwa says their strategic plan guides the work to assist FEO in making decisions, planning projects and aligning work with commitments to stakeholders.

She says the FEO will also make sure that the Elections Disability working groups will also be in all the electoral cycle, whether to be a candidate or forming their own party.

When questioned by the media on some of the concerns raised during the previous elections, Mataiciwa says the main concerns raised was trust in the election and its processes.

She says whenever there were concerns raised to the FEO, people were shut down, however, moving forward they will have a consultative approach and open door policy through the amended laws in the upcoming months whereby concerns will be referred to relevant departments to be addressed.

She says this will also be looked at during their auditing of the system to be transparent during pre-elections and after election.
