Please store water and take necessary precautions as you can expect water disruptions due to heavy rain.

The Water Authority of Fiji says heavy rain for an extended period will disrupt the production and supply of water as this will cause blockages which disrupts the intake.

CEO Barry Omundson says a blocked intake means there is no water coming to treatment plants and the heavy rain further compounds this issue.

Omundson says while they will do their best to carry out repair works and restore the supply, everyone in Fiji will experience some form of water disruption for some time, depending on the severity of the issue.

He says excessive rain also increases raw water turbidity which affects their production volume and this has caused disruptions in the Suva-Nausori area.

We have already received calls from people living in parts of Nasinu and Nausori about water disruptions.

Some areas started facing water distributions from 5pm yesterday.

Omundson adds WAF has already initiated action to resolve these ongoing issues which includes the $270 million Rewa Water Project but these solutions will not occur until next year.
