Rice farmers in Madhuvani in Rakiraki will now have to pay less for labourers as they have been assisted with 3 mini combined rice harvesters by the European Union.

Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Mahendra Reddy says securing labourers is a challenge in rural areas and these machines will help these farmers meet labour requirement during harvesting.

Reddy says any assistance in the agriculture sector is an investment.

He adds introducing machinery and substituting inputs like organic manure for inorganic manure will increase productivity and reduce cost which will eventually increase surplus that will benefit a lot of people.

Reddy further says the end goal is for families to secure themselves with basic food and nutrition requirement, and allow the agriculture sector to grow and increase national income.

He has acknowledged the European Union’s support in these difficult times.
