England are out of the ICC Champions Trophy after a narrow eight-run loss to Afghanistan in Lahore this morning.

Chasing 326, Joe Root kept England in the fight with a brilliant 120, but his dismissal with 39 needed from 26 balls turned the game.

England still had a chance, needing 17 from 14 with three wickets left, but they collapsed and were all out for 317.

Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran was the hero, smashing 177 as England’s bowlers struggled.

With this loss, England are eliminated before their final group match against South Africa on Saturday.
