Emraan Hashmi starrer HAQ releases today

The much-anticipated film HAQ, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, is releasing today after the Madhya Pradesh High Court in India dismissed a petition to stop its release.

The film is inspired by the Supreme Court’s Shah Bano case, which supported maintenance rights for divorced Muslim women.

According to News18, a petition was filed by Siddiqua Begum Khan, Shah Bano’s daughter, who claimed the filmmakers should have sought her family’s consent.

The court rejected the petition, saying that a person’s privacy or reputation ends upon their death and cannot be inherited.

The court also noted that HAQ is fictional, inspired by public court records, and does not falsely portray anyone.

With the legal hurdle cleared, HAQ is now showing in cinemas worldwide.
