Empowered women entrepreneurs can break the cycle of poverty and create an enabling environment for inclusive economic growth.

This has been highlighted by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Lynda Tabuya, as she officiated the graduation ceremony of the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre.

A total of 53 women graduated - 15 in Fashion and Design, 17 in culinary and 21 in care giving.

Tabuya acknowledged Fiji Muslim League for continuously supporting women in Fiji through training.

She congratulates and commends Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre for offering free courses to women, through which 1565 women have graduated since 2015.

Chairman of Makoi Women’s Training Centre, Bashir Ahmed thanked the Government for its continuous support as they look forward to working closely with the Ministry of Women.

Tabuya adds the Ministry has finalized the National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls, although work is in progress.
