Following serious concerns being raised on there being no electricity at the Korotasere Health Centre in Cakaudrove while attending to two burn cases at 2am last week, Minister for Health Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu has assured people that they will look into the issue and address it.

A woman in a social media post says it is pathetic that the Ministry does not seem to care and at least provide them with a reliable source of light through solar power or a generator.

She says they have seen that their solar power has been down for more than 1 year and the generator they use will always give trouble.

The woman says the Sunking solar light went off since it cannot be charged well and they struggled with their phone lights while trying to heal and treat patients.

She is urging the Minister for Health to help his staff and provide what is needed.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Dr. Lalabalavu says they are also looking at developing Korotasere with their development partners and if it is something that was raised in the media regarding how patients were treated due to lack of amenities including electricity and infrastructure, then it is something they will try and address.

The Health Minister says the installation of solar electricity was part of the minor works that were supposed to be carried out in this financial year and he will check on this with the Divisional Health Commissioner in the North.

He says as part of his visit to the North last year, it was identified that some facilities in the North, especially in the interior, including Korotasere is due for an update in terms of total infrastructure that is areas of work and the living quarters which includes the WASH facilities and electricity.
