Edward Nand and Ligacere to be sentenced next Friday for murder

Nand appears with visible injuries

Edward Nand and Salimoni Ligacere who were found guilty for the murder of a visiting Fijian national from Canada, Narend Chand in February 2023, will be sentenced next Friday.

The two appeared before Justice Siainiu Bull in the Suva High Court today for the sentencing hearing.

Nand appeared with visible injuries to his head and face and Justice Bull has ordered that Nand be escorted to CWM Hospital for treatment.

He alleges that he was assaulted by Fiji Corrections Officers in custody.

While delivering the submission during the sentencing hearing, DPP lawyer Zenith Zunaid says the search history on Nand’s phone included “How to get away with murder” and “can sniffer dogs detect blood in the rain.”

Zunaid also asked the court that leniency not be given to Nand because it was a pre-planned cold blooded murder.

Defence lawyer Sunil Gosai asked for leniency for his client who was a law student.

He says Nand can reform and educate himself.

It was earlier heard in court that Edward Nand used his former girlfriend without her knowledge to obtain financial gains from Chand.

The court was also told that Nand spoke to Chand on several occasions in a female voice.

Chand was later badly beaten up and thrown under a bridge when he came to Fiji from Canada.

The court heard that Nand was also sending nude photos of his girlfriend to Chand without her knowledge.
