The economy is showing very strong signs of recovery, in fact we now think that we will have better growth for this year than what was originally anticipated.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad highlighted this at the launch of the newly upgraded Primary Manufacturing Department at British American Tobacco Fiji.

Professor Prasad says the revenue is holding very well and the tourism numbers are doing very well and are going to reach pre-pandemic levels by the end of this year.

He also says remittances continue to be buoyant with more than $1 billion last year.

Professor Prasad adds that they are currently working on the budget.

Professor Prasad further says that BAT Fiji has a rich history of 68 years operation in this country, supporting the economy and in particular the agriculture sector.

He adds Fiji is one of the few countries in which BAT undertakes Tobacco farming and 100% of the Tobacco leaf sold in the domestic markets is grown locally.
