The National Disaster Management Office has launched the Evacuation Centre tool whereby people can now use Viber, Facebook Messenger and SMS platforms to access information regarding their nearest evacuation centres during natural disasters.

Speaking at the launch of the National Disaster Awareness Campaign, NDMO Director Vasiti Soko says people can either send a message on the NDMO Facebook page or use Viber and SMS platforms.

The contact number for the Viber and SMS platforms is 132877 and this is a toll free service.

Meanwhile, Minister for Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu says this campaign is all about saving lives by giving people the relevant information they need before, during and after a natural disaster.

Seruiratu says Fijians are no strangers to natural disasters and this year our ability to manage crisis was put to test.
