Dubai 7s: USA beat favourites Black Ferns 7s 21-17

The USA have beaten favourites the Black Ferns 7s 21-17 in the last minute to keep things interesting in Pool A.

The USA are coming off a 14 game losing streak against New Zealand and have surprised everyone after holding out and beating the world champions.

Su Adegoke, Sarah Levy, and Erica Coulibaly scored with conversions from Tahna Wilfley and Sariah Ibarra.

The Black Ferns scored through Kelsey Teneti and Risi Pouri-Lane.

The Emilie Bydwell coached side led 7-5 at the break.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s are now top of their pool after winning their first two pool games 28-19 against France and 19-7 against the USA, with a game to go against the Black Ferns 7s at 12.16am tomorrow.

The women’s semifinals begin at 9.12pm tomorrow, with the final scheduled for 3.35am Monday.

In other games, the Black Ferns 7s edged France 24-21 in their first pool game, Australia beat Japan 31-7, Canada thumped Great Britain 41-5.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s 7s team beat Argentina 26-19, they play South Africa at 12.16am tomorrow and France at 4.12am tomorrow.

The men’s semifinals will begin at 10.06pm tomorrow, with the final set for 4.11am Monday.
