It was one of the tightest semifinals ever with scores locked 0-0 at halftime.
Australia's two tries were scored by substitute William Cartwright with conversions by James McGregor and Dietrich Roache.
The two teams were evenly matched till Australia emptied its bench and brought on fresh legs.
Australia came into the semifinals as runners up in their pool after beating Spain 14-7, lost to New Zealand 21-17, before defeating Great Britain 21-17.
Australia will take on New Zealand at 4.11am today.
