Duavata Secondary from Udu Point kicks off football championship with 4-0 win over Maharishi Sanatan

The Duavata Secondary School girls team has made a huge splash at the Extra Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship in Ba, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Maharishi Sanatan College from Nadi in their debut appearance.

Team manager Sachin Kumar praised the girls for their impressive performance.

He says that coming from Udu Point, at the far end of Vanua Levu, their hope is to take the trophy home and make their community proud.

Kumar highlighted the significant efforts made to reach this stage, particularly in terms of financial challenges.

He says this was the first time the team had participated in a tournament of this scale, making the win even more meaningful.

He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and staff of Duavata Secondary School for their unwavering support, financially, mentally, and spiritually.

With their debut win setting the tone, Duavata now look ahead with high hopes for the rest of the tournament. They will face Pandit Vishnu Deo Memorial College at 9.15am, followed by a match against Waiqele College at 1pm today.

In other Open Girls category matches yesterday Labasa Sangam College defeated Tavua College 2-1, Vunimoli Islamia College beat Nadroga Arya College 2-nil and Waiqele College beat Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial College 3-nil.

Defending champions Ba Sanatan College dominated Dreketi Central College with a 4-1 win, and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School beat Nadi Sangam SKM College 2-nil.

Tavua’s Nilsen College drew 1-all with Central College, while Xavier College also recorded a 1-all draw against Korovuto College.
