Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua

Drugs have no place in Kadavu, and we are at war.

While sending a strong message to Tavuki village leaders and community members during his five-day tour of Kadavu, Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua declared a unified stance against the island’s drug crisis.

While addressing the ongoing issue of marijuana cultivation and the growing influence of illicit drugs in Kadavu, the Minister called on villagers to take ownership of the problem and work alongside the Government, particularly law enforcement, in combating drug-related activities.

He also challenged villagers to become the first line of defence in the fight against narcotics, saying that this war cannot be fought by the Police alone. The Minister adds that it requires each and every one of us to protect our homes, our youth, and our future.

The meeting also focused on long-term solutions, including discussions around economic empowerment and sustainable development.

Representatives from Government agencies were present to explore viable alternatives to illicit activities, promoting farming and fishing as means of economic resilience for the province.

Naivalurua says this is not just about law enforcement; it is about saving lives and securing the future of our children.

He says together, with unity and purpose, we can win this fight.

The visit to Tavuki is part of Naivalurua’s five-day tour of Kadavu, focused on addressing illegal activities, reinforcing frontline enforcement, and building stronger community-government partnerships.
