Marist Brothers High School's Iowane Dovumatua recorded the fastest time in the senior boys 100 metres heats finishing off in a time of 10.93 seconds.
Dovumatua is the favourite for this race and is aiming to break the 15 year old 100 metres senior boys record tonight. The record was set by Queen Victoria School's Viliame Nasuku in 1993 in a time of 10.74 seconds.
Meanwhile, Natabua's Alfred Smith and Queen Victoria School's Setareki Tikosaya ran in the same heat and Tikosaya finished first with a time of 10.96 seconds while Smith came in second.
The 400 metres heats are currently underway while the 200 metres heats kick off at 10 minutes past two this afternoon.
The finals of the 100 metres will start at 6pm in the sub junior grades while the Blue Ribbon event is scheduled for 6.24pm.
Day 1 is expected to finish at 7pm following the 400 metres senior boys event.
Meanwhile, Marist Brothers High School has just seen a gold medal slip away from their hands in the senior boys shot put event where the favourite, Sesario Vosarogoci who was expected to come first but he had to settle for a silver as Josefa Levula of Lelean won gold.
According to the Fijivillage medal tally, Marist Brothers High School is now leading the boys division with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. The gold for Marist coming from Jale Vatubua in the Intermediate Boys Javelin. Nadroga Arya college is in second place with 1 gold and 1 silver while Grammar, Nadarivatu Secondary, Lelean, DAV College of Ba and LDS are tied at second place with 1 gold each.
Grammar recorded their first gold in the Intermediate Boys High Jump. The gold went to Grammar's Netani Seruwaqa.
In the girls division, ACS, Lelean, Suva Grammar and Bucalevu Secondary are tied at first place with a gold each.

“Two records have been broken so far on Day 1 of the 2008 Coca Cola Light Games currently underway at the at the National Sports Stadium. The first record to tumble was in the inter girls’ discus throw where Kelera Yani Tabusoro of Lelean Memorial School set a new record with a throw of 34.13m – the old record was set by Seruwaia Tuqou of Suva Grammar School in 1996 and stood at 32.98m. The other record that has been broken was in the senior girls’ long jump where Suva Grammar School’s Makelesi Tumalevu has set a new record with a jump of 5.90m – the old record was also held by Makelesi Tumalevu of Suva Grammar she set that record last year with a jump of 5.56m. The heat for the blue ribbon events have just ended here at the national sports stadium. And the highlight was – and no surprises – as the favourites in the Senior Girls’s 100m came out with some very blistering times. Adi Cakobau School’s Sera Tuinalase and Alena Vadrasamu recording times below 12.25seconds while Makelesi Tumalavu from Suva Grammar School ran in a time of 12.07s and the battle is building up between these three top runners in today’s finals coming up later today. We Spoke to Sera Tuinalase and Alena Vadrasamu of Adi Cakobau School and they say their aim this afternoon is to run 11s and they don’t want Makelesi Tumalevu to take out the gold from under them and they’re confident that they will take that out. Looking at the LegendFM Medal Tally so far Marist Brothers High School is now in the lead in the boys division with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. The Marist gold coming from the Inter Boys Javelin event where they managed to win the gold medal. Nadroga Arya College now remains in second place on our medal tally with 1 g and 1s while SGS, Nadarivatu Secondary, DAV in Ba, Lelean and Latter Day Saints have all managed to get one gold medal each. And in the girls’ division it’s all tied up at this moment time Adi Cakobau School, Lelean, Suva Grammar and Bucalevu with one gold medal each. That is how it’s looking at this moment in time.”
