Team Fiji weightlifter Taniela Rainibogi has just won Fiji's first gold medal at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the 110kg division as well as breaking three Games records.
Rainibogi had a record total of 378kg, lifting 170kg in the snatch and 208kg in the clean and jerk – both Commonwealth Games records.
His winning total pushed England's Cyrille Tchatchet II into silver with 374kg while Canada's Xavier Lusignan claimed bronze with 356kg.
Rainibogi's victory continues a memorable week for Pacific weightlifting after Sāmoa's Seine Stowers claimed gold and Games records in the women's 77kg division and Sāmoa's John Tafi opened his country's medal tally with silver.
Fiji's success does not end on the weightlifting platform with young boxer Jasmine Daunakamakama also keeping the country's medal charge alive.
Daunakamakama defeated Singapore's Keshani Hansika in the women's 57kg quarter-final to secure at least a bronze medal, becoming Fiji's first female boxer guaranteed a podium finish.
The 21-year-old, who is also Fiji's first woman to compete internationally in boxing, said her strength comes from mana.
Daunakamakama will face Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh in the Women's 57kg semi-finals at 1.30am tomorrow.
In Lawn Bowls, Women's Singles Sectional: Elizabeth Moceiwai lost her first game to Tonga's Milika Nathan 1.5-0.5.
Moceiwai also went down Norfolk Island's Shae Wilson 2-0.
In the Men's Pairs Sectional: Fiji lost to Australia 2-0.
Their next match is at 7.40am against Pakistan.
Australia currently leads the medal tally with 49 gold, 22 silver, and 35 bronze, Canda is second with 14 gold, 11 silver, and 16 bronze, while England is third with 13 gold, 28 silver and 18 bronze.
