Young finishes sixth in Commonwealth Games 50m Freestyle Final

Team Fiji swimmer David Tolu Young produced a stellar performance in the men's 50 metres freestyle final, finishing sixth with a time of 22.18 seconds at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old created history by becoming the first Fijian swimmer to reach a Commonwealth Games final.


Australia's Cameron McEvoy, Flynn Southam and Jamie Jack finished first, second and third respectively.

Young will compete in tonight's men's 100 metres freestyle heats, which begin at 10.09pm.

Other Team Fiji swimmers competing in the men's 100 metres freestyle heats are Hansel McCaig and Reuben Taylor.

18-year-old Kelera Mudunasoko will compete in the women's 50 metres breaststroke heats at 10.34pm.

Meanwhile, Anahira McCutcheon finished sixth in the women's 100 metres freestyle semi-finals with a time of 55.80 seconds, while Samuel Yalimaiwai finished eighth in the men's 50 metres breaststroke semi-finals.
