A lot of burnt cane is coming in says Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh and that’s not a good sign for us.

He says the quality of sugar does not look good when you bring in burnt cane.

Singh stated this in a recent press conference pleading with the farmers to bring in green cane.

He says the farmers who are trying to burn their cane, he knows most of the harvest operators prefer burnt cane so they try to encourage the farmers to burn the cane and then get it harvested.

He says the burnt cane quality of sugar is not too good.

The Minister says therefore we don’t get the best price for our sugar when we export.

He is also asking the Police to please do their part in cases of arson.

Singh says if there is someone found burning someone else’s cane they should be taken to task and not left aside.
