Disregard of COVID-19 safe measures in Suva City

Disregard of COVID-19 safe measures in Suva City

With escalating levels of COVID infection in the community, serious concerns are now being raised that situation could worsen as we continue to see people disregarding COVID safe protocols in public places.

The Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. James Fong has already confirmed that there is an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in all divisions which is anticipated to continue to increase and for people to be vaccinated and continue to practice COVID safe measures.

He has also stressed that people should not only have a vaccine only strategy.

However, we saw many people walking without masks in Suva City today and some people were not wearing masks properly.

We also saw people without masks at the Suva Bus Stand and passengers in public transport were not practicing 2 metres physical distancing.

Crowds of people who were lining up to go inside shopping centres were also not physically distancing from each other.

We have also witnessed that many people are not scanning the QR code using their careFIJI app and temperature checks are not properly done in a number of places.

We have sent questions to the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force regarding the blatant disregard to the protocols and have asked on their plans as COVID cases are again on the rise. They are yet to respond.
