The quote “The greatest gift a parent can give their children is love and support” rings true for 38-year-old Dan Fong from Vunidogoloa Village in Cakaudrove as he travelled all the way from his village just to be at the HFC Bank Stadium to support his son who will be participating later today in the Coca-Cola Suva Zone 1 competition.

Fong’s son, William will be running in the 1,500 metres, 800 metres and 4x400 metres events in the junior category for Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School.

The father says he left the village at 5am yesterday because he wanted to arrive early in Suva and support his son.

Fong adds he is hoping that his son will perform well today and tomorrow, but no matter the results, he is still proud of his son.

Meanwhile, intermediate athletes such as Lidia Waqairapoa and Tirisiane Kiliraki of MGM High School are looking strong on the tracks so far and will be the athletes to watch in the two-day event.
