Man who allegedly murdered four women in Labasa granted bail while his alleged accomplice remanded in custody

[L-R] 19-year-old Zuhair Dean with his lawyers and Saimumu Din

19-year-old Zuhair Dean who allegedly started the house fire that killed four elderly women in Benau, Labasa in April this year has been released on bail while his alleged accomplice Saimumu Din has been further remanded in custody.

They are charged with four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of arson.

Dean was granted bail by High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar on strict conditions.

State did not object to bail as Dean is a student and has no previous conviction.

Saimumu Din has been remanded in custody as the prosecution informed the court that he has a previous conviction and they also need time to respond to his bail application.

The case will be called again on 7th July.
