Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association member David Hugh Petrie has passed away.

The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association CEO Fantasha Lockington says Petrie was a tourism icon in Fiji.

Lockington says Petrie worked in and around the industry as one of the many pioneers who have helped to shape the tourism industry to what it is today.

She says his immense work has contributed to Fiji's highest contributing industry to the national gross domestic product and largest employer.

The CEO adds his legacy as a dedicated professional, community leader, and family man who was known to be generous, caring, funny and industrious, will endure in the memories of those who knew him.

Lockington acknowledged his generous contribution, dedication and passion, and bid farewell to another son of Fiji that gave so much.

Petrie died peacefully at his Sydney home last Monday.
