The board of Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Officer, Visvanath Das, and has also confirmed that the Director Corporate Services, Fane Vave is the Interim Acting CEO, while the board commences the process of identifying a suitable candidate to succeed Das as the Chief Executive Officer.

Das joined the Inland Revenue Service in July 1996.

The board says says his extensive experience in FRCS has been in Audit for over 15 years before he became National Manager Debt, General Manager Taxation prior to being appointed as acting CEO and confirmed CEO in October 2016.

FRCS says the organisation has made many notable strategic achievements under his leadership with the most significant being a shift to a “One Organization, One Team and One Service Approach” and implementation of automation and systems to improve efficiency and revenue collection.

The board says Das has resigned for personal reasons and to explore new frontiers in his career.

Meanwhile, a senior executive of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service is under investigation for allegedly approving the payment of the legal fees of a suspended executive earlier charged by the FICAC.

Fijivillage had earlier received information that FICAC has been investigating the senior executive for the past few weeks.

We have received information that the senior executive’s computer has also been assessed.

It is alleged that at least one of the former Revenue and Customs Service board members may have also been involved in approving the payment of the legal services.

It is understood this is also under investigation although the former board member has left the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service board already.

No comments have been made by FRCS.

FICAC also says that it will not make any comments at this stage.
