Dan Carter concedes he will have to beat “old man calves” syndrome to have any chance of making a belated Super Rugby Aotearoa debut for the Blues.

He has a bit of time on his side with the Blues having a bye this week before taking on the Crusaders in their final match at Eden Park on August 16.

By then the title could be decided with the Crusaders having a chance to claim the trophy if they beat the Highlanders this weekend.

The 38-year-old Carter has taken a philosophical approach to his injury struggles that have stymied a return to action in New Zealand.

He was set to be on the bench against the Hurricanes in round six but fell victim to the calf problem and has been doing his best to get fit again.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes will take on the Chiefs at 7.05 pm Saturday and the Crusaders will face the Highlanders at 3.35 pm Sunday.
