A dalo farmer in Navua who struggled for the last ten years has made his name known in the international market in relation to dalo exports.
Peni Moi has gone from being a small scale farmer to be the largest exporter in Fiji and buys his dalo from farmers in Taveuni, Koro, Kadavu, Naitasiri, Rewa, Bua and Macuata.
Moi, whose company is known as Ben’s Trading Limited has 150 employees who peel and pack the dalo before it is exported overseas.
He funds his own dalo business however he has asked Government to help him because the demand is great and is looking at building a proper shed and employing more unemployed people.
Moi won the Prime Minister of the Exporter of the Year Award in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
He also won the Agriculture Award and the largest Exporter Award.
