A strong wind warning remains in force for the land areas in Lau as Cyclone Donna weakens to a category four storm and heads towards New Caledonia.
Cyclone Donna poses no direct threat to Fiji.
The system is currently packing winds of up to 265 kilometres per hour and should head into New Caledonian waters within the next 12 hours.
Vanuatu's capital of Port Vila escaped any major impact overnight as the storm is continuing on its south‑easterly path.
Earlier the cyclone swept over northern Vanuatu, damaging homes, crops and a cell phone tower.
Vanuatu's Northern District Hospital is preparing more beds for people who may have been injured during Cyclone Donna.
The storm hit Torba, Malampa and Penama provinces as a category four, damaging homes and crops.
