The Suva Magistrates Court will rule on Chinese nationals Yu Yang Feng, Minghui Dai and Zhou Lan, who were allegedly found with methamphetamine and a large sum of cash in an apartment in Rewa Street, on November 25.

Their lawyer Shirley Tivau told the court that they are prepared to present two sureties for each applicant, with each surety offering $2,000 for bail.

Tivau argued that the evidence provided by the State is weak, as the three accused are only alleged to be connected to the drug offences.

She also informed the court that the accused persons’ visas will expire in January next year and requested that the court grant them bail.

State prosecutor Eoghn Samisoni maintained the State’s objection to bail.

He says if bail is granted, the Ministry of Immigration could remand the accused in accordance with its policy.

Samisoni adds that the State does not support any extension of the visas, and therefore it would be preferable for the applicants to remain in remand.
