Managing Director of Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Limited and former Director of Telecom Fiji Limited, Sanjay Kaba

Managing Director of Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Limited and former Director of Telecom Fiji Limited, Sanjay Kaba has been granted a bail variation to travel overseas for business.

Kaba is charged with one count of obtaining a financial advantage.

Magistrate Charles Ratakele granted the bail variation, finding the travel necessary.

Magistrate Ratakele says that Kaba’s past conduct while on bail has been good, he has strong ties to the country and this is sufficient for him to be allowed to travel.

He has ordered that Kaba’s passport be released.

Defence counsel, Vasu Pillay informed the court that he will meet with FICAC to finalise the proposed agreed facts.

Kaba will be travelling from the 17th to the 29th of July and from the 2nd to the 19th of August.

State Counsel, Nimisha Shankar had no objection to Pillay’s proposal.

It is alleged that Kaba between 27th January 2017 and 20th January 2019 whilst being a board member of Telecom Fiji Limited and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited, engaged in conduct namely bidding for a tender through the company Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Limited for providing Project Management services to TFL for TFL's new office and data centre project, and as a result obtained a financial advantage amounting to $766,327.22 between June 2022 and July 2023, knowing that HLK Jacob was not eligible to receive the financial advantage as he had failed to declare his interest as the director for HLK Jacob.

The matter has been adjourned to the 27th of August.
