Cost of calls from Vodafone to Digicel reduced

Cost of calls from Vodafone to Digicel reduced

Good news for Vodafone customers who make contact with Digicel networks as their mobile rates and charges have been reduced by almost 50%.

The Fiji Commerce Commission has made a determination on the new off‑net rates.

The commission says it is effective from today.

It says the new methodology means cost savings for customers when calling other networks and this will also allow customers to be able to switch from one network to another, depending on the level of competition in the rates.

For calls from Vodafone to Digicel network between 7am to 7pm, the new charge will be 24 cents per unit while making a call between 7pm to 7am will cost customers 21 cents per unit.

Vodafone Fiji and INKK have made a public announcement on the new rates.

We have contacted Vodafone however they are yet to comment.

Meanwhile Digicel Fiji says a major milestone was achieved for mobile users in Fiji today with new rates announced by two mobile brands which will bring call costs down by up to 45%.

Chief Executive Officer Darren McLean applauded the Fiji Commerce Commission’s determination this week in taking a decision that is strongly positive for mobile customers in Fiji.

McLean says up until yesterday, a 1 second call from Vodafone to Digicel was 42c which heavily penalized people for having friends and family on other networks

He says the new rates mean that Vodafone customers will be charged up to 18 cents less for a 30 second call made to another network.

Digicel says previously a Vodafone customer was charged 42 cents to call a Digicel number for a single second.

McLean says Digicel customers have already been benefitting from a single rate for all mobile calls for a very long time.
