Defending champion, Argentina is the first team through to the semi finals of the Copa America competition after a 4-2 penalty shootout win.

The teams were tied 1-all at the end of full time where Lisandro Martinez scored his first international goal for the Argentine in the second half while Kevin Rodriguez equalised in stoppage time.

Lionel Messi missed his penalty kick in the shootout and needed his Argentine teammates to bail him out, and the world champions delivered for their all-time captain.

Messi has also broken the all-time record for Copa América minutes played.

Julian Alvarez, Alexis Mac Allister, Gonzalo Montiel and Nicolas Otamendi scored for Argentina.

In other quarter finals, Venezuela takes on Canada at 1pm tomorrow while on Sunday, Colombia takes on Panama at 10am and Uruguay takes on Brazil at 1pm.
