The first-ever Fiji National TVET Policy Consultation is underway where education stakeholders will discuss ways to shape the future of our educational landscape which will contribute to the progress and development of the skills sector in Fiji.

Representatives and officials from Government, the Higher Education Commission, Heads of Tertiary Education Institutes, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) providers, and education partners are taking part in the discussion.

While opening the consultation at the Holiday Inn, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says the development of a comprehensive and forward-thinking TVET policy is essential for economic growth and employment, aligning education with market needs, empowering youths, innovation and entrepreneurship, social inclusion, and sustainable development.

The Minister says the Coalition Government is fully committed to revolutionising TVET in Fiji and they are implementing comprehensive plans to modernise facilities, update the curricula, and expand access to training programmes across the country.

He adds their vision is to create a TVET system that is inclusive, innovative, and integrated with industry needs and this includes substantial investments in infrastructure, technology, and capacity building for educators.

The Minister adds the draft Fiji National TVET Policy has been cleared by the Office of the Solicitor General and upon public consultations it will be submitted to Cabinet for endorsement.

A minute of silence to pay tribute to the late Professor Tupeni Baba was observed before the consultation began.

The National TVET Policy Consultation Central will be held today and tomorrow at Holiday Inn, Suva.

The consultation will also be held in the Western and Northern Divisions.
