Minister for Education, Premila Kumar

International finance facility for education must be established to provide concessional loans and grants needed to drive education transformation.

This is according to Minister for Education, Premila Kumar who says climate financing needs to be refigured to support education beyond infrastructure development.

She made these comments while speaking a High Level Panel discussion in Paris.

Kumar shared at the discussion her sentiments regarding how slow the education sector has been in responding to the needs of the workforce, global citizenry, and to prepare students to adapt to the changing world of the 21st century.

She emphasised that education cannot be treated in isolation if we want to achieve sustainable future.

Kumar says they need to change the school system to allow students of all abilities and interests to excel in school and beyond.

The Minister for Education says COVID-19 pandemic has given them an opportunity to rethink and reframe education through transformation. She says education has to be a shared responsibility of all stakeholders to achieve common goals and actions.

Kumar adds students intellectual abilities and interests differ and it is important the education system recognizes these differences and offers more subject choices and non-curricula activities to allow students to become what they want to be.
