Students, parents, families, friends and old scholars came together last night for the Suva Grammar School Concert at the Vodafone Arena as part of their 65th Sapphire Anniversary celebration.
There were performances by various student groups while Natalie Raikadrika, Drixstar and Mr Grin also performed their new Grammar song.
Old Scholars President, Stanley Simpson says Grammar is known for their expressive arts and talent and their concert gives students an opportunity to express themselves, show whatever talent they have, come out and test themselves.
Simpson highlighted this to fijivillage News, saying this is a stepping stone for many people who went on to become artists later in life.
He says this is also for people who are academically inclined or sport-inclined to just express another side of themselves.
The Old Scholars President says this is all about education, stressing that the school has produced people like Natalie Raikadroka, Drixstar and Mr Grin, who all started in concerts like this.
He says fashion designer Vuya Ratabua, who specialises in contemporary tapa design, also started at the Grammar concert.
Simpson says these are stepping grounds for a lot of these budding young talent.
He reiterates that the funds collected not just tonight but this whole week will all go towards their program called Digital Grammar.
Simpson says you only turn 65 once, and for a school like theirs they have different decades, with a lot of different people with different tastes so they are trying to cater for everyone through the week.
He says right now they are gearing up for their Grand Ball this Saturday.
Simpson says ticket sales for the Ball are going very well and they are encouraging people to buy their tickets early, because they want to cut it off by Thursday, so that they can handle the catering well.
He says today the school is holding its capping ceremony for their First XV rugby team, adding he thinks they are one of the only school that does the capping ceremony in Fiji, apart from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, and the Fiji Water Flying Fijians and the Vodafone Fijiana XV.
He says it's a special tradition that they have started, and it will be held at the school.
