Police have confirmed that a complaint has been lodged against the Attorney General and the Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the Totogo Police Station.

Police have not confirmed as to who has lodged the complaint and the nature of the complaint.

However, according to a statement by the Fiji Indigenous People's Foundation, it is assisting Veronica Malani and her family with the lodging of the complaint that has to do with alleged human rights abuses.

Malani is alleging that Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and his associates organised the making and detonation of home bombs around Viti Levu in order to injure and harm known Fijian targets sympathetic to the interim government, following the coups of May and September, 1987 by Sitiveni Rabuka.

When questioned, the Fiji Police Force says it has started investigations by trying to locate the investigation files from their filing archives.

The Force says that initial information indicates that three people were charged for those alleged incidents and were subsequently dealt with in court.

Malani who is a former employee of the Land Transport Authority was charged by FICAC last month.

Malani is facing two counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage and General Dishonesty – Causing a Loss.

It is alleged that while employed as the Manager Road Safety and Education at LTA, Malani approved accountable advance claims made under the names of two other employees of LTA and as a result, obtained financial advantages of $1,925 for herself and $250 for another employee in October 2017.

This matter is before the court.
