International Women’s Association Fiji President, Judy Compain is raising serious concerns again on where is the money for medicine and consumables for the public hospitals after IWA had to get emergency supplies for women’s maternal health.

Compain says as far as she knows, these are life saving drugs, and she is concerned why these supplies keep running out.

Compain has also tagged the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad and Minister for Health Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu.

She is concerned about these shortages at the hospitals, and she says she is getting the information from the doctors on the ground.

When asked by fijivillage News, Minister for Health, Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says today he will receive some life saving equipment from some generous donors who now reside overseas.

He says he is done clarifying to whenever Judy Compain makes a post on a donation and in the same tone belittles the Ministry as if the Ministry is doing nothing.

Doctor Lalabalavu says he has always said that he welcomes any assistance and this is acknowledged from IWA and so are other individuals and organizations who continuously assist and give freely to the Ministry to assist in providing health care services to our people.

The Minister says Tranxemic Acid Injection is a new addition and currently included in the new Drug Tender whereby the evaluation is currently ongoing.

He says it was approved by the National Medicine and Therapeutic Committee for surgical use only and once received, it was used by all the departments.

Doctor Lalabalavu says the initial purchase was done through request for quotation and distributed to Labasa and CWM Hospital, and they are now redoing some more request by quotation on the drug while awaiting the main tender supply.
