Co-host New Zealand has made an early exit from FIFA Women's World Cup after a nil-all draw against Group A leaders Switzerland last night.

Switzerland had the advantage of possession which did not give the football ferns any opportunity to win the match.

New Zealand has become the first host nation failing to make it past the group phase.

In their opening match, they won 1-nil over Norway before losing 1-nil to Philippines in their second match.

The result last night has seen Switzerland and Norway making their way to the knockout stage from Group A.

In other matches last night, Colombia beat Germany 2-1, Norway thrashed Philippines 6-0, while Morocco edged South Korea 1-nil.

In today's matches, Costa Rica will play Zambia at 7pm, Japan to face Spain at 7pm, Canada to face Australia at 10pm while Republic of Republic to play Nigeria at 10pm.
