Merry-making is taking place around the country as people from all different backgrounds have been seen celebrating Christmas with family and friends and majority have taken advantage of the good weather and were busy making lovo.

We visited some of the areas in the outskirts of Suva today and people told us that their families are the main reason behind the celebrations today.

Hundreds of people were also spotted at My Suva Park where  families gathered from this morning to celebrate Christmas.

We caught up with a family from Raiwai who were at My Suva Park not only to celebrate Christmas but also to celebrate the birthday of a family member.

Jefferey Sigarea, a father of three has turned 37 today. He says he did not ever think of celebrating his birthday today as they have always celebrated Christmas this day.

Sigarea says his wife did all the planning.

As for 24-year old Ashna Lata, celebrating Christmas with her family is the most important thing as she is always working.

She says their Christmas celebration started with a church service and then a family day out at My Suva Park.

Meanwhile, Rupeni Qaraniqio from Raiwai settlement says everyone should be celebrating Christmas as Jesus Christ came to save everyone.
