A wave of excitement and anticipation swept through Walu Bay this morning as the Chinese naval hospital ship Silk Road Ark arrived in Fiji making history with its maiden visit to the country and the South Pacific.

Dozens of people gathered at the dock, including members of the Chinese community, officials from the Republic of the Fiji Navy, the Chinese Embassy, and curious members of the public — all eager to witness the arrival of the towering white vessel.

The vessel recently returned from Nauru and will remain in Fiji for the next eight days to provide free medical services to the public.

Free medical services will begin tomorrow from 1.30pm to 5pm.

Additional clinic hours are scheduled for October 3, 5, and 6, running from 8am to 11am and 1.30pm to 5pm.

Initial check-ups will be held at Vodafone Arena Hall B, where patients will be screened before being transported via shuttle to the ship for further treatment, and patients are reminded to bring a valid ID card for registration.
