China donates 17 hospital beds to assist with Fiji’s COVID-19 response

China has donated 17 hospital beds worth $25,500 to aid Fiji with its current response to COVID-19.

The Fijian government in a statement says this will enable the Health Ministry to equip the newly opened Nakasi Health Centre, that has been converted into Fiji’s sixth hospital based isolation facility, and the third in the Central Division in addition to Navua Hospital and CWM Hospital.

Health Minister Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete has thanked the People’s Republic of China for their support to Fiji’s Health sector.

He says the assistance from Fiji’s international and regional partners is important as they provide additional resources and support for a cohesive and collective response to contain COVID-19.

Waqainabete says working in solidarity at all levels is the key to winning the battle against coronavirus.

China’s Ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo says China and Fiji are comprehensive strategic partners and China will continue to provide anti-pandemic supplies and is willing to share best anti-pandemic practices and send special medical team to combat the virus with Fijian side if necessary.

Qian says the Embassy is in the process of procuring a batch of medical supplies and personal protective equipment to Fiji.

He adds the recent assistance from the China in support of Fiji’s response to COVID-19 also includes the provisions of Humanitarian Aid Grant and through donation of personal protective equipment.

The Ambassador says China stands in solidarity with Fiji in the efforts to contain the COVID-19.

He says he is hopeful that this assistance will add value to the tireless efforts of the many frontline workers in Fiji who are aspiring to safeguard the lives of every Fijian.

He further says that says during this unprecedented period of time, they appreciate the all-round timely measures taken by the Fijian government, extraordinary efforts and hard work of Fiji’s Ministry of Health staff as well as all frontline workers across the country.

The Ambassador adds China is committed to providing further assistance to support Fiji’s response and economic recovery measures.
