Cawa Methodist Chapel in Nadi has received a $1,000 donation for their Food Drive from a couple of Sydney, Australia.

Organizer of the Food Drive, Biu Waqaniburotu says the sponsorship from Kruger and Martha Roache is a blessing to them as it has enabled them to put this food drive together.

Waqaniburotu says the Roache family has a business in Sydney called Roache Global. He says they came to Fiji in December 2019 with the West Sydney Two Blues to take part in the Coral Coast 7s as Kruger is the head coach of the club's 7's academy.

He says they are pleading to anyone that is willing to help in terms of groceries to come forward and help them assist the families of Nadi who are in need.

Members of the Cawa Methodist Chapel in Martintar, Nadi have come together to organize the food drive to help 30 families who are in need.

Waqaniburotu says because there are no more tourists, most of the people in Nadi are now unemployed and are in need of assistance.

He says this initiative is on a barter system basis where they will provide a dozen cup cakes and a bundle of fish in exchange for groceries.

Waqaniburotu says they will also have live entertainment by members of the congregation who used to serenade in hotels and are now unemployed.

The Food Drive will be held next to the NASA camp in Nadi from 10am to 3.30pm this Saturday.
