Caubati man to front court for allegedly kicking cop

A 22-year-old Caubati man who allegedly kicked and assaulted a police officer attending to a report of causing trouble on Monday will front the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.

The police officer sustained minor injuries and is now back at work while the suspect who was drunk during the incident has been charged with one count of serious assault.

Police are yet to lay any charges in the case in Navuca Settlement, Burerua, Tailevu where an officer based at Korovou Police Station was allegedly hit on the head with a rock on Monday night. Police Constable Jiutasa Taiki who is now recovering at home was trying to stop an argument between a group of people drinking alcohol. The suspects are in custody.

A 25-year-old woman of Nasoso, Nadi also appeared in court on Monday after she allegedly assaulted a woman officer last Saturday. The accused was drunk and causing trouble when she committed the alleged offence.
