27 rooms and a laundry room were destroyed by an early morning fire yesterday at the Capricorn Hotel in Martintar, Nadi.
The National Fire Authority says 45 guests along with a receptionist and a security officer were also evacuated safely.
They say there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
NFA says the blaze was reported at 12:59am, prompting an immediate response from the Nadi Fire Station, which dispatched two trucks and nine firefighters.
They arrived within 10 minutes to find the laundry area fully engulfed and flames spreading towards the guest rooms.
NFA also stated that due to low water pressure from a nearby hydrant, firefighters resorted to using portable pumps to draw water from the hotel’s swimming pool.
They say the fire was brought under control by 3:11am, with assistance from Lautoka Fire Station’s additional two trucks, ten firefighters, and an ambulance.
NFA say the hotel built in 1992 and insured by AON, sustained significant damage. The cost is yet to be assessed.
NFA CEO Puamau Sowane acknowledged the swift response and emphasized the importance of up-to-date fire safety certifications and training for hoteliers and building owners.
